As a follow-up to last week’s post about gondolas opening 6 June 2020, here are a few more gondolas opening the weekend of 13 June 2020. I’ve also included a few that I missed in last week’s post. And this only includes hikes we’ve done, so there are certainly more options out there.
As with the last post, some are only open on weekends in June and don’t start daily service until July. Not all trails are open even if the mountain transport is. So check the individual websites to confirm operating times and trail status before heading out.
There may be longer wait times than usual as some places may reduce capacity in cable cars and trains. Some places require wearing masks inside cable cars and trains, so best to bring your own. Good luck out there!
Central Switzerland

Panorama trail near Engelberg that leads to to a roaring waterfall. Plus an alpine dairy, playground and restaurant with a view.

An easy walk around an alpine lake with mountain views. Many amusements for children including a theme trail, huge playground, tall jump into an air pillow and pony rides. Suitable for strollers.

The short, easy walk along these beautiful alpine lakes is a wonderful option for families with little kids and visitors with limited mobility that still want to experience the alps.

Ride a funicular, then a special cable car with an open air roof to the top of Stanserhorn at 1898m, with spectacular panorama views overlooking Lake Lucerne.

Ride a rotating cable car to this mountain peak and glacier near Lucerne where you can walk on snow even in summer. Amusements include an ice cave, suspension bridge, and summer sledding and skiing.

Challenging hike from the Ebenalp mountain down to the popular Seealpsee lake near Appenzell, with views of the Alpstein mountain range.

Beautiful ridge hike near Flumserberg in Eastern Switzerland, accessed by a tiny private gondola, definitely locals only. The 7.5 km loop is long and tough enough to satisfy adults and short enough that older kids won’t take all day to complete it.

An easier version of the 7 peak tour, visiting the first and last 3 peaks, with big views of the lake below and mountains in all directions. Add on the Floomzer mountain coaster at the end as a reward.

This classic Swiss hike over the beautiful Gemmipass, connecting cantons Bern and Valais, is a great option for families thanks to cable cars and a well defined trail. The scenery is breathtaking and varied, definitely one of the best hikes we done in Switzerland.

A short panorama trail with views of an impressive glacier and 18 peaks over 4000m high. Families can add on the alpine playground and theme trail. For a little excitement, finish the day with an 11km scooter ride.
