Below is a short description of what to expect in each season in Switzerland. Make sure to visit during the correct season that matches the types of activities you want to do.

Spring is a good time to visit cities, country villages, and popular mountain viewpoints that are open year round.
If you want to hike during spring, you must choose trails at lower elevations, enjoying valleys, rivers, lakes and flowers.
Most ski resorts close by mid April and take a break for several weeks before reopening for summer season.
Summer season starts in June, with mountain resorts opening gradually as the snow melts away.
Most trails and amusements are open by mid June, but some not until July. Make sure to check opening times before making plans.
If you want access to the widest variety of hikes and activities, the best time to visit is from July to late August
Fall colors in Switzerland start around the beginning of October, usually peaking in late October with the golden larches.
Mountain resorts and services start to close, particularly at higher elevations, and early snow storms can alter opening times.
Most Swiss ski resorts open in mid December, a bit earlier if snow conditions are good. Best snow conditions are typically January and February.
Most ski resorts are open through March, some staying open till mid April. High elevation areas like Zermatt and Davos may remain partially open through early May if conditions are good.
Christmas markets in Switzerland start opening four weeks before Christmas, with most city markets open daily until Christmas Eve.
In smaller villages, markets may only open for one weekend.
In November and December, you’ll find popup fondue chalets and winter gardens, where you can enjoy holiday food and drink in a festive environment. These book out very early.
