This wonderful zoo has a wide variety of animals and plenty of indoor exhibits, making it fun to visit in all seasons and weather.

Basel Zoo

Though smaller than Zoo Zürich, this zoo has a good collection of animals and a particularly nice aquarium, with many more types of sea creatures that in Zürich. A fun day trip for the kids if you don’t live in the area.

Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil

Small zoo is designed for young children with animal shows, rides and playground.

Aquatis Aquarium-Vivarium Lausanne

Aquatis is the largest freshwater aquarium in Europe, full of interesting creatures from all over the world. We particularly liked the quirky creatures and colorful interactive displays that made learning fun. The adjacent hotel and close public transport make it an easy and convenient family outing.

Sea Life Konstanz

Aquarium on northeast border of Switzerland with a nice collection of undersea life including a shark tank. Includes fun hands-on activities for kids.

Wildnispark Zürich-Langenberg – free animal park

Small free animal park near Zürich featuring native Swiss animals like deer, mountain goats, wolves, boar, and wildcats.

Vogelpark Steinen: Bird Park

Lots of beautiful birds, fun interactive activities for children and educational animal shows at this bird park across the border in Germany.

Kilchberg Farm

Small farm near Zürich where you can visit the animals and buy farm products like fresh milk, cheese, apple juice and meat.

Tierpark Goldau

This wild animal park, southwest of Zug in the shadow of Mt. Rigi, has has a very natural setting, so it feels more like a walk in the woods than a zoo. Deer and rams roam freely and vending machines throughout the park sell boxes of animal food so you can feed the animals. The bear exhibit is a big draw, though they aren’t always active.

Wildpark Bruderhaus

Free animal parks in the woods with large, natural enclosures housing a small variety of local animals like deer, wolves, wild pigs, and horses.
