This easy winter hike wanders down the Hasliberg mountain, a bit away from the ski resort making it very calm and quiet. The path is wide and easy walking, no snowshoes required. You can bring a sled on this trail for a little fun on the downhill parts. It’s a short trail, so you can combine this with another winter hike in the area, like we did, or the 3km sled run higher up the mountain.

Location
The Hasliberg resort is in the middle of Switzerland, south of Lucerne and east of Interlaken. It is easily accessed by car or public transportation.
Overview of ski resort
Here is the winter map of the Hasliberg resort, showing the winter hiking trails. This trail starts at Bidmi and hikes down to Reuti. At both ends of the trail, there are restaurants and toilets. If you want to sled, you can start at Mägisalp, sled to Bidmi. Then walk with your sled to the winter hike and keep sledding on the downhill parts. We started our day with the Käserstatt winter hike and did this hike in the afternoon.
This winter hike is from Bidmi gondola station to Reuti gondola station as shown on the map below. It’s easy walking on a wide path with groomed snow. The last third of the trail is lightly used by cars to reach homes and farms, thus the snow is more packed, thin and possibly icy.
See trail map on Komoot • Schweiz Mobil • OutdoorActive
Longer option: If you wanted a longer hike, you could start with the Käserstatt winter hike (from Twing) to Mägisalp, hike down to Bidmi, then join the trail described here. The total distance would be about 10k. You might also consider the the Hasliberg-Brünigpass panorama trail, about 10k and 3hr15.
Getting there
This hike is accessed with the Reuti-Bidmi gondola. The hike ends at the bottom of the gondola, where you can find your car or catch a bus.
By car: Park at the Reuti gondola station (46°44’40.6″N 8°11’44.1″E). Ride the gondola up to reach the hike. The Reuti parking is very limited and fills up quickly. You may be required to park at the Twing gondola station and ride a bus to Reuti. At the end of your hike, you would then need to take the bus back to your car at Twing. The bus is included in your hiking pass ticket. Check the bus schedule.
By public transport: Take a train to Brünig Halisberg (shown below), then bus 158 to Hasliberg Reuti, Dorf. Ride the gondola up to reach the hike.
Ticket prices
For this hike, you’ll need a 1-zone winter hiking ticket that includes unlimited use of the Reuti-Bidmi gondola. This also includes the bus between Twing and Reuti. In 2021, this ticket cost CHF 20/adult, CHF 15/adult with GA or SBB Half-fare, CHF 10/child aged 6-15. Children with a SBB Junior Card or under 6 ride free. See current ticket prices.
If you want to do other hikes, use the sled run or visit the Alpen Tower at 2250m, you’ll need a different ticket that covers more zones. Simply explain which activities you want to do and they will sell you the right ticket.
Opening times
Hasliberg is usually open for winter season from mid December to early April, depending on snow conditions. The gondolas that access this trail are open 8:00 – 17:00. Lifts and trails may close due to poor weather or snow conditions. Check the current operating status.
What to wear & bring
For footwear, you should wear waterproof hiking shoes with good traction. You don’t need snowshoes. If you have traction cleats, bring them just in case parts of the trail are icy. I would suggest bringing hiking sticks for balance.
You should wear warm layers appropriate to the weather forecast and waterproof outer layers to stay dry in the snow. See also What to pack & wear on a winter hike.
It’s a short hike with restaurants at both ends. So you don’t need to bring a lot of supplies. But I would bring 1L of water/person and snacks.
Photo story of the trail
Here’s the Bidmi station where the winter hike starts. The ski school meets here and the little kids practice here.
At Bidmi, we had a little trouble finding the winter hike. Finally we saw this big sign pointing to the trail Reuti trail.
The trail starts behind the gondola station, walking past a couple buildings.
Then you walk up the ski slope for a couple minutes. Along with other hikers, we weren’t sure this was the right trail, but it is. Just walk up the side of the ski slope.
This part is a little annoying as skiers speed by, but it’s short.
After the short uphill, follow the ski trail downhill for a minute.
You’ll cross the ski trail junction here and finally get to the quiet winter hiking trail. See those two people walking off into those trees. That will be you soon.
Now it’s easy walking the rest of the way on a wide path that gradually descends down the mountain.
Now we start to get breaks in the forest and get those mountain views again.
A couple sleds came by but this not the main sledding path.
Very quiet over here and great views.
The path winds around the mountain passing a few farmhouses.
After about an hour, you reach this sign that indicates the end of the sledding path. After this, the road is used lightly to reach the homes in this area.
This part was more challenging to walk on because there was less snow and more ice on the path.
We past one farm with a self-service cheese cooler. You can pay with cash or Twint.
Finishing the trail in Reuti, where we caught the bus to Twing.
Note: The bus station was a little hard to find. The bus stop is not at the Reuti gondola station. Instead, it’s at the yellow Post building, about 80m before you reach the gondola station. The bus does not pick up in front of the Post building. Instead, you need to walk inside the building to the indoor bus parking. We were so glad we figured this out or we would have missed the bus.
I hope you enjoy this winter hike! See also our post about Skiing with kids at Hasliberg.
