Zürich has a lot of fun places to buy Christmas ornaments and decorations. If you are visiting or new to the city, this guide can help you find the best places to shop for “Weihnachtsschmuck” as its called in German. I’ve included places that specialize in unique handcrafted ornaments as well as more mass market shops with more affordable prices.

Christmas stores
1. Käthe Wohlfarht
This German shop comes from the famous Christmas town Rotenberg ob der Tauber. They offer a wide selection of Christmas decorations including elaborate Christmas pyramids, nutcrackers, tee light holders, and ornaments of all styles: glass, carved wood, felt, etc.
During Christmas, they have two temporary shops at the Zürich Weihnachtsdorf market near the Operahaus. Each has a slightly different selection of ornaments, so it’s worth it to visit both. On busy nights, there might be a bit of a wait to get into the shop. If possible, I would go around lunchtime and avoid the evening crowds.

2. Geschenkartikel Pegasus
This small boutique in the center of Zürich sells fancy ornaments year round. Most are glass blown and painted in charming vintage designs. The ornaments are sorted by color and theme, making it easy if you want a matching collection. These ornaments are delicate and expensive. So if you are shopping with children, keep them close and try not to touch until you are ready to buy.
They also have other Christmas deco including pyramids and figurines. I love their wrapping paper and cards. Children may enjoy the adjacent Steff Gallerie of teddy bears and other high end plush animals.

3. Christmas popup at Münsterhof
This gallery next to the Münsterhof Christmas market is hosting a Christmas deco popup store. They are packed full of gorgeous over-the-top ornaments. I want so many of them that I can’t possibly choose. It’s easy to visit this one after strolling through the adjacent Christmas market, where they have one of the nicer Glühwein options at the Carlton Bar stand.

Home decor stores
4. Depot
Depot is all about home decoration, with everything from tableware to linens to furniture. It’s my favorite places to dream of a beautiful home that I’ll live in someday. I don’t come here for my one special ornament, but rather for all the trappings like wreathes, baubles, candles, artificial flora, stars to hang, and little figurines to brighten up all the shelves. If I was hosting a dinner party and wanted the perfect tablescape, this would be my first stop.
They have a lot of shops in and around Zürich and all over Switzerland. We typically go to the Rennweg shop in Zürich center, but they have many other locations including Zürich HB and Glattzentrum, and Spreitenbach Tivoli. See all locations.

5. micasa
micasa is a homewares store under the Migros brand, which is more well-known for its grocery chain. They have lots of beautiful home décor including textiles, linens, lighting, and furniture. During Christmas, they always have beautiful colored themed collections as shown below.

6. Butlers
Butlers is a home decor store with lots of lovely Christmas decorations, including baubles, wreathes and garlands, candle holders, etc. They have a small collection of fun tree ornaments, some a little on the kitschy side particularly with their Peanuts line.
The prices here are much more reasonable than unique ornaments at the other boutiques on this list. So you might bring the kids first to see if they find something they like for CHF 10 instead of CHF 40 somewhere else. In Zürich, they have a shop in the Sihlcity mall. Across Europe, they have over 140 shops.

7. Søstrene Grene
So many were happy when this Danish chain finally opened in Zürich a few years ago. They have very affordable home decorations, craft supplies, kitchen wares, party supplies and more.
We love the Scandinavian style of their Christmas decorations. The prices are so good, that I can’t resist picking up something cute almost every time I pass the store. I also love their wrapping paper and other gifting supplies like boxes and ribbons. They have some nice ornaments with character, but I prefer this place more for overall holiday home décor.

Fancy department stores
8. Globus
Globus is a luxury department store near the main train station in Zürich. Most of their products are well outside the budget of most people including myself. But if you are looking for that one special ornament, this is a fun place to browse. In 2022, they have a gorgeous fruit and veg ornament collection as well as more traditional winter decorations.
We usually go to the Globus near the Zürich main station, where you’ll find the Christmas deco on the 4th floor. There is also a Globus near Bellevue across the street from the Christmas market. Also one at the Glattzentrum mall in Oerlikon. See all locations.

9. Jelmoli
Jelmoli is another premium department store in the center of Zürich. They have a lot of beautiful home decorations for the holidays, including fun ornaments like ice cream cones, rainbows, and popsicles. In 2022, the theme is “Mystical Christmas Home.” It’s a good place to look for something unique to add to your personal collection.
They are well-known for their Christmas “Märlitram” where children can ride around Zürich with Samichlaus and his angel helpers. In their Christmas section, you can buy an adorable Märlitram ornament as a souvenir of this event. In 2022, the price is CHF 49.90.
I also suggest visiting their gourmet grocery in the basement, which has many delicious treats particularly for Christmas.

10. Manor
We love Manor for home decorations, particularly during the holidays. Unfortunately they closed their department store in Zürich center. But they have department store at Zürich Letztipark mall (15 min tram ride from Zürich center), as well as many stores all over Switzerland.

Gift boutiques
11. wenn fisch träumen…
This tiny boutique in Zürich old town is hidden on a narrow cobblestone street. Every time I pass by, there’s something interesting in the window and I wish I had someone to buy it for. At Christmas, they have a small collection of unique ornaments, like the fondue pot and cable car pictured here. They also have lots of unique gifts if you have someone on your list that is difficult to shop for.

12. Antares
At Christmas time, this fashion accessory boutique has a small curated collection of unique, adorable painted glass blown ornaments. Their window display always draws me in, where I start with the ornaments and end with the jewelry, wanting almost everything.
