Zürich has many fun places to enjoy the Christmas spirit with festive decorations, music, market stalls, delicious food and drink, and activities.
In 2025, most Zurich markets will be open from 20 Nov to 23 Dec 2025.

These markets are scattered across the city, with shopping, food, and sometimes entertainment.
1. “Christmas Village” at Zürich Sechseläutenplatz
Our favorite Zürich Christmas market is the “Weihnachtsdorf” at Sechseläutenplatz near the Operahaus, which has the nicest vibe and best food.
| Location: | Sechseläutenplatz next to Zürich Opera House |
| Dates: | 20 Nov to 23 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | Mon-Sat 11:00 – 22:00 / Sun 11:00 – 20:00 |
| More info: | www.wienachtsdorf.ch |
Their market stands tend to sell higher end goods than the other markets in the city. Some vendors change weekly, so there’s a reason to visit frequently to see what’s new on offer.

It’s particularly atmospheric in the evenings, the most beautiful market in Zurich in my opinion. You can get lovely overview pictures from the fondue chalet balcony, where I took the photo below.

But the real reason to come here is the food! So many delicious things to eat this market, from traditional Swiss to a variety of international flavors. It feels like a food festival, with lots of cozy corners to sit or stand while you eat and chat with friends.

Kids will enjoy the adorable carousel and the “Elfendorf” with a few fun Christmas-related activities for children.
2. Zürich “Dörfli” Old Town Market
The “Weihnachtsmarkt Dörfli im Niederdorf,” is the oldest Christmas market in Zürich. Winding through cobblestone streets from the Grossmünster cathedral to Hirschenplatz, you’ll find 70+ market stalls with food, drink and gifts for sale.

| Location: | Niededorstrasse from Grossmünsterplatz to Hirschenplatz |
| Dates: | 20 Nov to 23 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | Mon-Thu 11:00 – 21:00 / Fri-Sat 11:00 – 22:00 / Son 11:00 – 20:00 |
| More info: | weihnachtsmarkt-doerfli.ch |
I call it the “Christmas Market Crawl,” picking up whatever tasty snacks and drinks catch our fancy as we slowly stroll through the prettiest part of the city.

Near the Grossmunster, there’s a adorable temporary fondue chalet, Fondue Alp, which would be a fantastic place for a special night out. Best to make a reservation. Note that they only have indoor seating.

Yes, I need help!3. Zurich Münsterhof Christmas Market
We love the setting of “Weihnachtsmarkt” Münsterhof,” in the plaza right in front of the Fraumünster cathedral.

With the motto “from Zürich for Zürich,” the vendors here are mostly small local businesses, meaning you might find more unique gifts at this market.
| Location: | Münsterhof |
| Dates: | 20 Nov to 24 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | Mon-Sat 11:00 – 21:30 / Sun 11:00 – 19:30 / 23 Dec 11:00 – 21:30 |
| More info: | www.zuerich-weihnachtsmarkt.ch |
The setting is lovely, surrounded by attractive traditional buildings. They have a sleigh with the Böögg, which is a popular photo opp.

The mülled wine here is from Zweifel (a local wine producer), made a little less sweet so it tastes more like wine. But it’s also the most expensive – CHF 8.50 in 2025!
This market also offers a few workshops (origami and soap making) and musical concerts most evenings. See the program on their website.
4. “Polarzauber” at Zurich HB train station
One of the largest indoor markets in Europe, the “Polarzauber” market at the Zürich HB train station has 130 stalls selling all the typical stuff like scarves, candles, nativity scenes, ornaments and other holiday inspired gifts.
| Location: | Zürich HB main train station (see on map) |
| Dates: | 20 Nov to 24 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | daily from 11:00 – 21:00 / Thu-Sat food until 23:30 |
| More info: | polarzauber.ch |
New in 2025, the Polarzauber theme offers a variety of attractions like Northern Lights show, St Nicholas event and Pixel Tunnel for children.
P.S. The big tree is now sponsored by Lindt, not the Swarovski crystal tree as in previous years.

For fondue, they have a nostalgically decorated “Fondue Train,” elevated above the market for a unique view. Reservations must be made well in advance.

The food here has traditional Swiss options, like bratwurst, rösti, and raclette, but more international flair as years go by. They have a couple of raised platforms with standing tables where you can eat and get a nice overhead view of the market.

5. “Weihnachtsallee” at Europaallee
This big Christmas market is right next to the Zürich HB main station, making it an easy choice for meeting friends from outside the city.

| Location: | Europaallee next to Zurich HB |
| Dates: | 20 Nov to 23 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | Market open daily 11:00 – 22:00, until 20:00 on Sundays |
| More info: | weihnachtsmarkt-doerfli.ch |
The stands focus more on food than shopping, with many stands the same as what you’ll find at the Bellevue market.
We love that they have lots of festive covered seating, with many cozy “Stüblis” like the one below. This way you can mingle with friends even on wet days.

At the far end of the market, there is an enclosed area for children with play equipment.

6. Heilger BimBam
If you’re looking for interesting artisan made gifts, the Heilger BimBam market should be your first stop, with over 200 stands from small creative businesses.

| Location: | Halle 550 – Birchstrasse 150 (near to Oerlikon train station) |
| Dates: | 11-14 Dec and 18-21 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | Th & Fr 17:00 – 22:00 / Sa 12:00 – 21:00 & Sun 12:00 – 18:00 |
| More info: | www.montagsmarkt.ch/heiliger-bimbam |
Since the market is inside a big heated hall near the Oerlikon train station, it’s a good choice for cold, rainy days.
Most of the stands selling food and drink products have samples to try. We found so many other handmade products we loved as well: jewlery, hair ornaments, scarves, bags, ceramics, hats, etc. I wanted everything!!!
I thought their Glühwein was one of the best in Zurich and nice and hot unlike at the Bellevue market this year. You leave a depot on the mug, so if you can keep it if you love it.
They have a bar with lots of options besides mulled wine. Their prosecco pour was quite generous and reasonably priced for Zurich.
7. Uetliberg Winter Magic
Uetliberg is the small mountain overlooking Zürich, reachable by a short train ride from the Zürich main station. During winter, they host “Winterzauber auf dem Uetliberg,” with festive lights, food booths, mulled wine and activities like candle dipping and curling.

On weekends, they have market stands, exclusively for small artisans who create their own unique products. Unlike other markets, the makers don’t pay to participate, but instead apply for one of the coveted spots.
| Location: | Uto Kulm / S10 train from Zürich HB to Uetliberg |
| Dates: | 6 Nov 2025 to 31 Jan 2026 Christmas market stands on weekends through 21 Dec 2025 |
| Times:: | Sat 12:00 – 19:00 / Sun 11:00 – 18:00 |
| More info: | utokulm.ch |
On weekends leading up to Christmas, they will also have Christmas market stands selling handcrafted items. They also have a popup chalet, where you can enjoy fondue or raclette in a cosy environment.

They have lounge around the terrace, which is a nice place to enjoy the view on a sunny day.

If it snows enough, you can sled down the mountain after enjoying the market (sled rental onsite).
Winter “Gardens” & Festive Food
These outdoor venues have food & drink stands with festive lights and decorations, a nice place to meet friends and take a break from shopping.
8. Illuminarium (Swiss National Museum)
During the Christmas market season, the courtyard of the Swiss National Museum (aka Landesmuseum) because a festive food court, filled with yummy food stands and thousands of lights covering the walls.

People come here to eat and enjoy the ambiance, standing shoulder to shoulder at standing tables.
| Location: | Landesmuseum courtyard |

How to get there
By public transport
Most of the markets listed here are easily reached by foot and/or tram from either the Zürich HB or Zürich Stadelhofen train stations. I’ve included links to Google maps for each market so you can plan your journey.
If you are arriving at Zürich HB, the closest markets are the one inside the train station and Weihnachtsallee, right outside the train station.
If you are arriving at Zürich Stadelhofen, the closest market is Weihnachstdorf at Sechseläutenplatz.
By car
Parking in Zürich can be difficult to find and expensive, especially during the Christmas Markets. I would suggest one of these lots:
- Parkhaus Opéra – Schillerstrasse 5, 8001 Zürich
- Hohe Promenade near Stadelhofen – Rämistrasse 22A, 8001 Zürich
- Parkhaus Hauptbahnhof near Zürich HB – Sihlquai 41, 8005 Zürich
See ParkingZuerich.ch for lot status and more parking lots.
