Location

The Wildhaus ski resort is located in the Toggenburg region of Eastern Switzerland. See on Google Maps.

Winter map

Here is the winter map for Wildhaus. Much of the Wildhaus-Oberdorf ski area is a bit lower elevation than other resorts, so be sure to check snow conditions beforehand, especially in early or late season skiing. The beginners area at Oberdorf has short T-bars with easy blue runs for beginners, but these are all at about 1300m, which is quite low. Also, although the map shows runs down to the valley, often these are closed due to poor snow conditions.

Getting There

Toggenburg is nestled in the mountains, accessed by car or bus on a winding two lane road. Wildhaus is at the far east side of the valley. You’ll pass the other parts of the resort, the Sellamattbahn (gondola) and Unterwasser funicular, on your way to Wildhaus.

By car: Drive to Wildhaus and follow signs to the Wildhaus-Oberdorf chair lift. There is a parking lot adjacent to the lift. Schönenbodenstrasse 13 9658 Wildhaus (47°11’56.2″N 9°20’30.8″E)

By public transport: Take a train to Wattwil, then a bus to Wildhaus, Lisighaus. It’s a short walk down a road to the chair lift.

Ticket prices

The day pass covers all lifts in the Wildhaus area shown below. In the 2023/24 season, this costs CHF 58/adult, CHF 49/youth (16-19), CHF 29/child (6-15).

Wildhaus offers family tickets. For example, a day pass for 2 parents and 2 children (up to age 15) costs CHF 157.

You can also buy a discounted “Beginner” ticket, which covers the T-bars circled in blue on the map below, as well as transport on the chair lift to reach the resort from Wildhaus.

If you are not skiing (just accompanying your children to the slope), you only need to pay for the transport from the valley. They accept SBB Half-fare cards for this, which makes it very affordable.

Wildhaus Oberdorf Ski Area

From the village Wildhaus in the valley, you ride a chair lift up to the Oberdorf middle station. At Oberdorf, there are two T-bars on the left with practice hills, which are included in the beginner ticket. The longer T-bar and chair lift on the right are included in the full day pass and access more intermediate runs.

There is a restaurant near the T-bars, making this a convenient place to meet for families with a combo of abilities and non-skiers.

My friend Jessica liked that she could play at the Oberdorf middle station with her three year old at the bottom of the T-bars and easily watch her older children use the T-bar by themselves. The kids really enjoyed playing on this this big igloo with snow slides.

From Oberdorf, there is a chair lift up to Gamsalp and a T-bar above that access intermediate and advanced runs at a higher elevation.

Snow Garden

One downside of Wildhaus is that the snow garden is in the valley in Wildhaus, not up at Oberdorf. So if you wanted to meet the family for lunch, you’d have to collect your little one in the snow garden, then ride back up to Oberdorf. At Chäserrugg, the snow garden is at the middle station at Iltios, making it a bit easier for everyone to meet up together.

Summer tip: Toggenburg also has a fun activity trail for children, the Klangweg, with 20+ interactive musical stations scattered along the trail. Details for that trail here >>
