Beautiful Zermatt trail exploring the valley carved out by the Gorner glacier, today filled with larch trees and a rushing river. Nearby playground and picnic area for families.

This hike is probably the most popular and most accessible hike in the Calanques region, visiting the two closest inlets to Cassis. I also map out a shorter easier option for small children. Both versions are very beautiful and worth the effort, even with the inevitable crowds.
Calanque de Sugiton was our favorite hike in this area because of the beautiful and interesting rock formations for scrambling and exploring. If I could pick only one calanque to visit, this would be it.
This short hike packs a punch on the spectacular views, a good choice for families that need an easy option in this area. Although the rocks on this trail can make for tricky footing, my kids loved jumping around on them, breaking up the monotony of just walking. Moderate 3.2 km.
Easy valley walk with beautiful cliffs on all sides, a nice break from more difficult hikes in the Dolomites. Popular place for family picnics. Easy 4 km each way or as short as you like.
Ride up a crazy coffin-like cable car to the center of these spiky peaks, then hike around in a rocky landscape with sweeping views across the Val Gardena and Seiser Alm regions of the Dolomites. Moderate 8.5 km.
Fantastic family-friendly 6.5 km panorama hike that happily traverses the mountain instead of hiking up and down it. We loved the wide open views overlooking Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites, and its impressive glaciers.
These iconic peaks are *the* symbol of the Dolomites, known as Tre Cime di Laveredo or Drei-Zinnen. We did the 9.5 km loop around the peaks, absolutely recommended despite the inevitable summer crowds. It’s rated “easy” and is suitable for families, but it might be a bit tougher than you expect.
Here are the most challenging hikes we’ve done with our kids, starting when they were about 8 years old. These hikes are all longer than 10 km, with a fair amount of elevation ascent and descent, some slightly dangerous. These are suitable for tweens & teens that are confident hikers.
Hikes in Switzerland suitable for older kids with hiking experience (about 7-12 years old) – moderate difficulty from 6 to 9 km long.
Children help cave dwarfs living on Zugerberg search for their stolen gems along this interactive theme trail. The big playground, picnic areas and lovely Swiss countryside make this a fun, easy day out for families.
