This loop bike tour explores the dunes of the Zuid-Kennemerland national park west of Amsterdam. The well built path is easy to ride, with only small hills. It’s a safe trail from car traffic – a good choice for children. The park is very beautiful, with sandy dunes, thick forests, lakes, lots of birds and other wildlife.
We did this bike tour as part of our spring break cycling holiday in late April 2022.

Bike route
Here is the route we did through the dunes. We went on geared city bikes. There were a few hills on the ride, but nothing very difficult. Almost all of the route had bike lanes. Some paths were shared with pedestrians.
See interactive route on Komoot.

Bike rental
We rented from Behind the Beach Bike Rental located in Zandvoort village – Haltestraat 51, 2042 LL Zandvoort. They also have another location closer to the dunes at Camping de Lakens – Seaway 60, 2051 EC, Bloemendaal Aan Zee. (do not park at the camp site, but at the public parking just outside).
They are open daily 10:00 – 18:00. They have a variety of rental bikes including city bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes, tandems, children’s bikes, etc. Regular city bikes cost €12.50/day. E-bikes cost €22.50/day. You can pay extra to rent them 24 hours if you want to keep them past closing time.
Getting there
By public transport: Take a train to Zandvoort aan Zee. If you brought bikes you can start here. Otherwise, it’s a short walk to the Behind the Beach bike rental.
By car: If you need to rent bikes, the rental shop suggests you park at Louis Davids Garage. Or you could park at Thorbeckestraat 27, 2042 Zandvoort or see more parking in Zandvoort.
If you brought your own bikes, you can park in one of the many parking lots near the dunes – Zeeweg 84a, 2051 EC Overveen, Netherlands.
