How to get there

This playground is located in the mountain village Mürren near Lauterbrunnen in the Jungfrau Region.

By public transport to Mürren

If you are traveling via public transport, I think the easiest way to get to Mürren is via the Grütschalp cable car and Mürren mountain train. This journey is free with Swiss Travel Pass, Jungfrau Travel Pass, and Berner Oberland Travel Pass.

In this case, from the Interlaken Ost train station, take a train to Lauterbrunnen. Walk across the street to the Lauterbrunnen (Seilbahn) cable car station. Ride the cable car up to Grütschalp. Then transfer to the mountain train and ride to the Mürren BLM stop.

Then a short walk through the village to the Mürren (Allmendhubelbahn) funicular station. Ride up to the Allmendhubel (Standseilbahn) station, which drops you at the flower park.

Note: Alternatively, you could take a bus from Lauterbrunnen, Bahnhof to the Stechelberg (Schilthornbahn) bus stop. Then ride the cable cars from Stechelberg to Mürren (Schilthornbahn)

By car to Mürren

It can be easier to park at the Stechelberg cable car. So we suggest driving past Lauterbrunnen, up the valley to Stechelberg and park in the metered lot next to the cable car station. Lengwald 300B, 3824 Stechelberg CH. Ride the cable cars up to the Mürren (Schilthornbahn) station

On extremely busy days, the parking at Stechelberg may be full. In this case, you may need to park in Lauterbrunnen parking garage or even the new overflow lot Park & Ride Matten bei Interlaken and ride the train to Lauterbrunnen.

Mürren to Allmendhubel

From either the Mürren cable car or mountain train station, it’s a short walk through the village to the Mürren (Allmendhubelbahn) funicular station. Ride up to the Allmendhubel (Standseilbahn) station, which drops you at the flower park.

Planning your day

Tickets

Your cost depends on which mountain transport you use to get to Mürren.

For example, in summer 2024, the return journey from Stechelberg or Lauterbrunnen costs CHF 37.60/full fare, CHF CHF 18.80/Swiss Half Fare Card, CHF 7/Swiss Travel Pass, GA and other day passes.

If you are already in Mürren, return trip on the Allmendhubel funicular costs CHF 14/adult, discounted with Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card, and GA. If you want to hike back down to Mürren, just buy a one-way ticket. Current prices here

You can buy the whole journey on the SBB Mobile app and scan your QR code at the turnstile. You can also buy individual tickets at the cable car and funicular stations.

Opening times

The Allmendhubel funicular typically runs from mid-June through early October. Check current status of mountain transport.

More activities

Before going to the playground, you could first ride up to the Schilthorn observation deck, which has beautiful panorama views across the Jungfrau region. There is also a cliff walk at the Birg middle station. After this activity, stop in Mürren on your way back down and visit the playground. For details, see my Schilthorn Observation Deck post.

Photo story

Here’s the funicular station, with a child’s size funicular that’s on display. If you don’t already have a funicular ticket, buy one here. It runs about every 15-20 minutes and only takes 4 mins to reach the top.

At the top of the funicular, you’ll find the playground and a restaurant.

The playground has a fun water labyrinth that randomly sprays you. The kids love running through try to (not) get wet.

Several of the stations are for imaginative play, like this alpine dairy.

The playground is typically Swiss, with lots of semi-dangerous things to climb on.

There are mountain views in all directions.

On the hill above the playground, there are a few lounge benches with a view.

The view north from the hills next to the playground.

You get a view of all the famous mountains from here.

3. Flower theme path

On the hill above the playground, there is a short loop path with a bunch of info boards about flowers. The loop is about 440m and takes about 20-30 mins if you stop at each station. See trail map.

The flowers are best end of June through mid August.

4. Optional hiking

From the Flower Park, you can hike back down to Mürren instead of riding the funicular, about 2 km descending about 270m. See my Mürren Flower Trail post for details.

Our other favorite is the Mürren Mountain View trail, which ends at this playground. The trail is 4.8 km, climbing 483m of elevation. The playground is a nice reward for good hiking. See this post for details.

Our favorite playgrounds in the Swiss alps, with great views and fun amusements like bouncy castles, climbing walls, summer toboggans, and zip lines.
