In summer, you can rent small boats to cruise around the top of Lake Zurich. They offer row boats, pedal boats, and slow motor boats – no boating license required. They have boats that fit up to 5 people, children allowed and life vests provided. You don’t need a reservation.
From mid-May through mid-September, you can rent boats at two places near Zürich city.
On the west side near the Hafen Enge boat dock, you can rent at Bootsvermietung Enge at Mythenquai 25, 8002 Zürich. You can rent different sizes of pedalos, motor boats, and row boats. Prices and more info at bootsvermietungenge.ch
One the east side near Bellevue, you can rent at Bootsvermietung Lago at Utoquai 6, 8008 Zürich. They rent a variety of pedalos, one with a slide, and a small motor boot that doesn’t require a license. Prices and more info at www.lago-zuerich.ch

These companies advertise life-jackets for children, but it was much too large for our 4 year old.
