Strasbourg, France is a lovely Alsatian town, a little over 2 hour drive from Zürich. Darling half-timbered building line the streets. The main cathedral is very dramatic. The bakeries are omnipresent and delicious. Here are some reasons it can be fun for kids.

Getting There

Strasbourg has a dense city center with lots of pedestrian zones. There are two parking areas close to this area:

We’ve also taken the train there. The main train station is a 1.5 km walk from the cathedral and main pedestrian zone. You can also take a tram there.

An elaborate carousel seems to be a normal fixture of many French towns

Delights big and small: the massive Strasbourg cathedral and macarons.

Lots of wide open spaces for running about.

We always make at stop at this super cute and friendly candy store right in front of the cathedral. The kids usually get some free samples.

Escape the bustle of town with a stroll along the river in “Petite France”.

It’s a nice wide path, but sometimes no barrier between you and the water, a little precarious for toddlers.

In summer when the water isn’t too high, you can take a boat down the river.

To get a better view, you can climb up some stairs (no elevators for strollers) to this lookout over the “Petite France” neighborhood. Here’s the view so you can decide if it’s worth it.
