Family Photos in the Swiss Alps

A few of my friends have had family portraits taken in the Alps, dressed in traditional Swiss clothing, as a memento of their time in Switzerland. Here are some locations I suggested to a friend for a photo shoot like this.

Hoch Ybrig – very close to Zurich with wonderful views of Lake Luzern. Requires a ride up a gondola, then a chair lift (not good for little ones) and a short walk down an easy trail (20mins, good for little ones) to get the right shots.

Stoos – Classic Swiss landscape and gives a variety of different types of landscapes. You could get the swiss village with the rolling hills or go to the top and get the alpine meadow with the mountains and lake luzern below.

Ebenalp – You could get some great pics in the valley, saving you the cost of going up a gondola. The pics I chose are from the bottom of the gondola. You can also get very nice ones from the top of the gondola as well.

Engelberg – the location used by my friends. Every time I’ve gone, they have very clear weather when Zurich and Luzern were very hazy. Maybe there’s something special about this valley. There’s lots to do here (alpine slide, trotti bike, swimming, hiking) so you can definitely make a whole day out of it.

Ballenberg – very easy for photoshoots because the land is all part of the open-air museum, not private farm land. So you don’t have to worry about crossing over fences, etc. Plus, you can make a day of it and enjoy the museum. The fields are lovely and the Bernese Alps are in the background.
