The aviation museum in Dübendorf, aka “Flieger Flab Museum,” documents the history of military aviation in Switzerland, from the beginning to present day. It was much better than I expected!
There is a wide variety of real flying machines, lots of related aviation paraphernalia, and several interactive displays with which the kids can play. The museum is housed in old airplane hangers, with lots of windows so you can see the air field and any planes that might be taking off or landing that day. The museum was quiet with very few visitors, but no one complained about my loud kids running around the place.

Impressions
Most airplanes are “look, don’t touch”. The informational displays are in German only.

Kids can climb in this real cockpit and push all the buttons. This was popular and there was some drama with the turn-taking.

This display lets you control a model airplane. Also very popular.

More buttons, not sure what they do.

A stripped down helicopter allowing you to see how the controls turn the blades.

View of the airfield from inside the museum.

Lots of military planes and weapons. There were also some videos showing weapons in action, like footage of shooting down planes. I had some explaining to do.

We got lucky and happened to be there during a camp where older kids learned to make model airplanes. This was their closing ceremony where the kids flew their planes to show their parents what they had done. My boys were fascinated by this and wanted to watch all the planes fly.

My favorite model airplane, the dragonfly.
